If you have ever visited SOTUs sample mood boards on Pinterest, you would know how much we adore a visually decadent party theme - from fiery feathered showgirls to electric laser lightshows, we have lived and loved them all!
One of our favorite costume looks is, of course, the classic circus - a touch of Pierrot, a dash of Parisian flair, a hint of surreal fantasy.
Lucky us, the direction for this years YPO holiday party in our favorite rock city Detroit was just that...and we have never had so much fun hauling suitcases full of pastel feathered Harlequin suits and crystal embellished corsets through JFK as we did for this wild weekend!!
With all hands on deck at the SOTU design studio, our costume interns worked tirelessly with creative director Ami Goodheart to pull together a dazzling selection of carnival creations...
SOTU designer Gracey even brought a few last minute touches on board with us...never a dull in-flight moment!
Once we arrived in Detroit, giddy about the next nights festivities, we made sure that all costume looks were crystalized, SOTUfied and ready to go...done and done!
Starting our set-up early the next day, we were able to witness a marvelous transformation of the venue, Flat 151, from an expansive loft space into a lavish Parisian carnival. The talented forces behind Detroit's Mood Events worked some serious magic to bring this opulent environment to life!
We were so inspired to start makeup and wardrobe as the countdown to party time finally drew near...it isn't everyday (although it should be) that we get to use almost every trick in the makeup kit.
Incredibly dynamic duo Michael and Irene fascinated guests as a Pierrot-esque clown couple; Michael greeted party goers from his towering stilts at the venue entrance as Irene drew them in with her exquisite violin music.
Our stunning peacock goddess Anna stood statuesque as exotic eye-candy, illuminated by sparkling crystals and jeweled lights.
Even Gracey got into the circus spirit, changing into a glamorous carnival doll look to join our performers out on the dance floor!
And of course, no party is complete without a trip (or two or three) to the photobooth.
Til next time, Detroit...bon temps pour tout le monde!!
