Spring Fever with SOTU

This winter may have been a bit mild in New York City, but we are ready for spring sunshine...could it be the fabulous samples of SOTU swimwear we've been designing that have us dreaming of beaches?
Luckily the launch of our online boutique is so very close!

We had a little case of separation anxiety at the showroom last week as so many costume pieces are out and about...did you catch singer Neon Hitch wearing a SOTU custom black and white beaded feather piece (inspired by our muse, Josephine Baker) and classic black aerialist suit during the NBA All Stars pre game concert on Sunday?

Wowowowow

Stylist Kyle Luu made some magic with that look...bravo! We loved it.

If you missed it live, don't fret! An online video is available here.

Last Thursday, SOTU attended our first RAW Artists event at the M1-5 Lounge.
Our dear friend, fashion artist Phil Gomez, curated a stunning collection of pieces from his favorite designers...including yours truly! Phils runway performance at RAW:Activate was absolutely inspiring, and it was a pleasure to show some of our favorite pieces amongst so many talented artists.

Doing the Moon Walk with SOTU

Each time New York Fashion Week rolls around, we can't wait to dive into a new SOTU event...last season, SOTU models caused a commotion around town representing Moussy during Fashions Night Out.
And who could forget our favorite hairspray truck?

This year, we partnered with Cole Haan to create an original dance performance and glowing astro-costumes for their LunarGrand wingtip launch party.
SOTU choreographer Victor worked with our amazing team of dancers to surprise party-goers at the downtown Cole Haan store...emerging from the crowd in custom LED embellished space track suits, our dancers owned the night with a seemingly spontaneous performance to "Walking on the Moon" by The Dream ft Kanye West.

Cell phone cameras went up with lightning speed as Lashonna, Maho, Ashley, Ryan and Julio moved through the crowd.

As another great night came to finish, we lit up the cobble stone streets of Soho in true SOTU fashion and bid adieu...
Where is a giant hairspray truck when you need a lift home?

SOTU Scrapbook: New Years Eve in Baku!

Kicking off the new year on the shores of the Caspian Sea was an unbelievable experience...who knew we would be jetting off to Azerbaijan to open for Turkish pop star Tarkan on the first day of 2012?? Follow us on a stroll down short-term memory lane in beautiful Baku...

SOTU dancers Shauna, Torrey and Sarah can't wait to meet Tarkan!

Who needs a pool when you have the whole Caspian Sea?
Well, we do because the pool was AMAZING

Straight into set-up and rehearsals at the Baku Expo Center, we couldn't wait to try out some choreography on that massive stage

Luckily we were able to do a little sightseeing in Baku,
and enjoy a lovely dinner at Waggon Paris

Headdresses ready for showtime!

After a quick costume change, SOTU dancers ring in the new year on stage with thousands of party goers!

Hours later, we are back on a plane to New York City and still picking glitter out of our hair

A New Year with SOTU

What a wild couple of weeks we've had!
Now that the dust has settled from our world travels and costume making frenzy, we finally have a moment to catch everyone up on the latest SOTU adventures...

From the moment we returned from Azerbaijan, where SOTU opened for pop star Tarkan at an incredible New Years Eve bash in Baku, we hit the ground running back to the studio to work on a collection of gorgeous new costumes for Nikon.
In preparation for the biggest electronics show of the year, CES 2012 in Las Vegas, we spent day and night bringing our vision for Nikon to life in a flurry of feathers, crystals and candy (yes...candy!)...

With our bags packed and pink cotton candy wig in hand, we were off to Las Vegas with our SOTU models Sarah, Jessica, Jillian, Torrey and Nofar...
Our 'Nikon 1 Ladies' were a huge hit at the Nikon CES booth this year, with crowds gathering to get a shot of our lovely models in SOTU vintage gowns, bird-inspired showgirl ensembles and confection candy costumes!

We all had an amazing time at CES 2012 with Nikon, and with all of the rave reviews we've received since, it seems that attendees loved the new Nikon 1 costumes just as much as we do!

As we wrapped up our week at the Las Vegas Convention Center, it was definitely time to let off a little steam in Sin City...

Now that we are back in New York City, SOTU is getting ready to launch our on-line boutique with fabulous clothing, accessories and home items inspired by our decadent live shows!
Stay tuned for updates on our website...

Mannequin Madness with Wanderlust & Lifestyle Trimco

We have to admit...when dear SOTU friends and fashion bloggers Emily and Abigail of Wanderlust asked us to collaborate with them and Lifestyle Trimco for their upcoming 'Le Cirque' gallery show, we were already up to our eyelashes in costume design commissions and racing to book our trip to Baku for New Years Eve.

How could we possibly pass up this fabulous opportunity to work with Wanderlust and Lifestyle Trimco creative directer Sean Sager?
We could not!

Together we scoured the SOTU showroom for the best costume pieces to dress Lifestyle Trimco's remarkable collection of mannequins and dress forms. We chose a mix of classic SOTU looks - the Human Chandelier centerpiece, a turquoise pheasant plumage showgirl ensemble and our infamous red feather dress - with the debut of our most recent tour de force, the Bearded Lady...an elegantly surreal gown of hair created by the SOTU design team for the Detroit Institute of Arts.
We had a good laugh and flexed a little muscle during set-up for the show...
Who knew that mannequins were such good models? ;)

The opening reception for 'Le Cirque' was quite a night...

We loved chatting with new friends, catching up with familiar faces and keeping a distance from those dastardly jello shots (ok, maybe we had just ONE).
The Lifestyle Trimco showroom looked incredible!

We can't wait for our next project in this terrific space!
Fashion Week perhaps?
